Vocal Star Music: moving a 5,000-track music store from a custom Laravel platform to Shopify

Vocal Star Music had outgrown its custom-built Laravel store. We moved it to Shopify, migrated more than 5,000 products with their prices, variants and files, and custom-coded the music features Shopify doesn’t offer out of the box: a track player, albums, and latest, top and best-selling lists.

The challenge

What wasn’t working

Vocal Star Music sold karaoke tracks and music on a custom platform built with Laravel. Every change needed a developer, and the owner wanted Shopify’s reliable checkout, apps and easy admin. The catch: Shopify is built for physical products. It has no native music player, no album structure and no way to list the latest, top or best-selling tracks.

Pain points

  • A custom Laravel platform that was costly to maintain and extend
  • 5,000+ products with prices, variants and files to move without losses
  • No native music player, albums or track charts in Shopify
  • Paid files had to reach customers securely after every purchase

Goals

What success looked like

Move to Shopify safely

Every product, price, variant and file carried over from the old database.

Keep the music experience

A player, albums and track lists that feel made for music, not a generic shop.

Hands-off delivery

Customers receive their files automatically and securely after payment.

Our approach

How we did it

A clear, step-by-step process, with the client involved at every review.

  1. Map the old database

We mapped the Laravel database to Shopify products, variants, prices and files.

  2. Migrate 5,000+ products

A scripted migration moved the catalogue in batches, with checks on pricing and variants.

  3. Custom-code the music features

Liquid sections and JavaScript for the player, albums and latest, top and best-selling lists.

  4. Automate delivery

LDT Digital Downloads sends each file securely as soon as payment is confirmed.

The solution

What we built

Built-in track player

Customers preview tracks on product and collection pages without leaving the store.

Albums and chart lists

Albums group related tracks, and lists show the latest, top and best-selling releases.

Clean migrated catalogue

5,000+ products with correct prices, variants and files, ready to manage in Shopify.

Secure digital delivery

LDT Digital Downloads delivers files automatically after every successful purchase.

Results

What changed for the business

The client now runs the store from Shopify’s admin, with a music experience that matches the old custom platform and a checkout customers trust. Sales are growing well, and the client has since trusted us with three more stores: Karaoke Hire Stars, Silent Disco Stars and Professional Backing Tracks. We still look after the store, fixing issues and adding new features as the business grows.

We are extremely pleased with the custom Shopify website for our music store. The team successfully implemented advanced features for single tracks and albums, which exceeded our expectations. Razibur and the team were professional, efficient, and attentive to our needs.
